Parent Crash Course for using CAPIT at HOME

IMPORTANT NOTE TO PARENTS WHOSE CHILDREN ARE USING CAPIT AT HOME

Parents, please do not help your child while working on CAPIT Reading. Each child should complete lessons on their own without your help. In our experience, children who receive support from parents or older siblings tend to struggle to master essential skills. If your child struggles to complete a CAPIT lesson, please request assistance from the teacher.

Of course, children may need assistance logging in or dealing with device issues. Below are the basics you need to know to support your child’s learning at home.

The Lock

When a student makes three mistakes in a row in a particular exercise, a Lock will disable the program. To remove the Lock, click on the back arrow at the top-left corner of the screen. Have your child try the lesson again, but please sit with your child and offer support when they need it. We list three ways you can help your child on the bottom of the Lock. Here is what it says:

It's your turn to teach your student/child. Here are 3 ways you can help:

1. Pocket Chart: Rely on the Pocket Chart to look up sounds.

2. Define Words: Explain the meaning of each word.

3. Offer Context: Use these words in a sentence.

If your child needs additional support and assistance, please get in touch with your child’s teacher.
